Changing Servers Very Soon (Complete)

August 2nd, 2008 by Mack

affiliates225x57 Very very soon, we will be changing servers to provide faster browsing of the directory. As a designer or web site owner, you are very key to minor latency.  I myself have noticed what I call very large latency for certain pages and it is just so annoying.  The directory makes enough profit each month to provide such a change and dually noted that users have experienced it also.  Therefor, it has inspired us to reach futher and we have finally decided to make that jump to a much larger datacenter.  In the end, some users might experience 2 or 3 days of downtime while the DNS propagates, but we hope it is for the greater good.

Well that was painless, browse around let me know what you think!!

A few months back I replaced my old dedicated server with a new one. Everything went very well, but there was a configuration problem with the DNS. Didn’t figure it out until a few weeks before the last pagerank update. One of my directories got got de-index from Google, but got it back about 10 days before the actual update. Didn’t gain or loose any pagerank, but learned a lesson that I have to learn more about system administration in order to make sure things get done correctly.

It is sure nice to have a dedicated server that is co-located, compared to shared hosting. My next project is adding a second server backing up the main server in real-time. All of the server parts are in, just need to build it and send it off for configuration.

This whole directory and blogging thing is really addicting, but at least the Madmouse Directory makes enough money to pay for things like this. Even losing my PR5 status and becoming a PR3, hasn’t slowed things down that much. But I owe lots of that to the SEO companies that do business with me.

Glad that your switch went good, because I know how hard you have worked on Lobo Links Directory and the Blog.

Yeah I was actually surprised it went off so flawless. Server moves can be time consuming and wear your patience thin easily.
